FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 development kit provides complete solution for storage product design

The DS-OXUF922-1394B-800 development kit from Oxford Semiconductor provides all the tools needed to create FireWire 800 (IEEE 1394b) and USB 2.0 compliant storage products with the minimum amount of effort and the lowest risk.

At the heart of the kits development board, the highly integrated OXUF922 programmable bridge chip offers 800Mbps FireWire 800, 480Mbps USB 2.0 and 133MHz, 80MBps IDE connections.

Including GNU C++ compiler and development software, source code and manuals, the kit enables users to write custom software on the OXUF922's embedded ARM7 microcontroller. The development kit is priced at $399.

In non-storage applications, the OXUF922's IDE controller can be configured as a high performance DMA interface, and an integrated 12Mbps UART provides an additional direct data communication interface. Four general purpose I/O and programmable LED indicators are included on the development board along with level triggered interrupt and reset inputs.

Equipped with a full expansion connector, the development board gives application specific daughter boards full access to the ARM7 microcontroller bus, GPIOs and interrupts. A 12V PSU is provided which the board converts to 5V in order to power a connected ATA device.

A complete set of cables is also included in the development kit, comprising an IDE ribbon cable for connecting a hard disk or CD drive, a serial cable for diagnostics and debug, IEEE 1394, USB 2.0 and RS232 cables and power cable adaptor.
