1394B and USB 2.0 bridge chip provides faster connectivity for IDE products
Combining an 800Mbps 1394B Link layer and Phy controller with a 480 Mbps USB 2.0 Phy, the OXUF922 programmable bridge chip provides a fully integrated solution for high-speed data streaming. Using on-chip hardware accelerators, the UF922 is optimised for asynchronous applications, and is particularly suited to performance critical MAC or PC peripheral design.
In supporting the second generation of the 1394 (FireWire) standard, the OXUF922 delivers twice the bandwidth of 1394A, is backwards compatible and offers additional support for longer cable lengths for home or office networking.
The chip is based on Oxford's popular OXFW911 IDE/1394 bridge chip, integrated into more than half of all external storage devices. Inclusion of the USB 2.0 integrated Phy and Link layer guarantees connectivity with any PC platform over USB 1.X and USB 2.0.
Complying with the ATA6 high-density drive specifications, the UF922's 133 MHz IDE controller handles a data rate of 80MBps and assures compatibility with all magnetic, optical and compact flash media. In non-storage applications, the IDE interface can be reconfigured as a high performance DMA host controller port.
A 12Mbps buffered UART is also included which provides a direct data communication interface to modems and Bluetooth radios and allows 'back channel' monitoring in RAID applications.
Controlling data flow through the OXUF922, an on-chip ARM7TDMI processor enables highly differentiated products to be developed in a simple 'C' programming environment.
